Psychological Safety

Psychological safety is the belief that one can speak up with ideas, questions, concerns, or mistakes without fear of negative consequences – is consistently identified as the foundation of high-performing teams. Harvard Business School professor Amy Edmondson's research demonstrates that psychologically safe environments lead to:

  • Greater innovation

  • More effective risk management

  • Higher engagement and retention

  • Improved decision-making

  • Enhanced learning from mistakes

Folklore Murder Mystery Events create a unique environment where these same skills can be developed through engaging gameplay – making them the perfect training ground for psychological safety.

Building Workplace Resilience Through Play

The Scientific Foundation

Edmondson's research shows that psychological safety doesn't develop automatically – it requires deliberate practice in environments where:

  1. Risk is present but contained

  2. Feedback is immediate and clear

  3. Status barriers are temporarily removed

  4. Voice is encouraged and necessary

Folklore's game design creates precisely these conditions, allowing team members to build psychological safety muscles through engaging play rather than theoretical exercises.

Measured Outcomes

The skills practiced during Folklore events transfer to workplace scenarios:

  • Challenging a flawed approach during project planning

  • Admitting mistakes before they become major issues

  • Contributing ideas regardless of seniority

  • Building trust across departmental boundaries

  • Navigating uncertainty with confidence

Through facilitated debriefs, we help teams identify how to apply these learnings to their specific workplace challenges.
