Social Deduction Games
Folklore Murder Mystery Events

Welcome to a Night of Deception, Strategy, and Thrilling Entertainment

Imagine a night where your group transforms into medieval villagers hunting a monster, or glamorous guests at a Hollywood party where danger lurks. At Folklore Murder Mystery Events, we've reinvented the traditional murder mystery experience, creating interactive social games that blend storytelling, strategy, and psychology into an unforgettable adventure.

Three players engrossed in one of our social deductions games look over at another player they suspect of being the monster

Expect factions, alliances, blindsides & betrayals. It's all par the course during a folklore game

How Folklore's Social Deduction Games Work

Unlike scripted performances where you watch actors, our social deduction games put YOU at the centre of the action. Here's how the magic unfolds:

1. Choose Your Adventure

Each Folklore experience begins with selecting a theme:

  • Monster Hunt – Our flagship medieval fantasy where villagers must identify the monster and their henchmen before it's too late

  • Hollywood Masquerade – Set in the glittering yet dangerous world of 1920s cinema, where everyone has secrets worth killing for

  • Titan Star: Uprising - An epic, Sci-Fi inspired space opera, full of spy craft, rebellion, and espionage. Long live the resistance!

2. Learn Your Hidden Identity

As you take your seat, you'll receive a character card that defines your role, special abilities, and whether you're on the side of good or evil. No two games are ever the same, as roles are randomly distributed, creating infinite possibilities.

Good or Evil? Your role determines your objective:

  • Good players work together to identify and eliminate the monster/ killer by voting them out.

  • Evil players attempt to remain hidden while sabotaging the town

In social deduction games of 15 players around 4 players will normally be evil. Because they're in the minority, they start the game with the advantage of knowing who each other are. Whereas the good team have absolutely no idea who's good and who's.

Some roles include:

  • The Knight who can protect players from attack

  • The Medium who can see who players have used their abilities on

  • The Sorcerer who curses players, making their abilities malfunction

  • The Alchemist whose death can trigger unexpected consequences

Three character cards from one of our social deduction games Monster Hunt - The cards featured are The Alchemist, The Medium, and The Sorcerer

Two henchman and a hunting party character card from Monster Hunt.

3. Experience the Game Cycle

Our games alternate between two phases:

Quests/ Revels (Eyes Closed)

Our social deduction games all start with the storyteller asking the players to "close their eyes". This is where the real intrigue can begin. During the eyes closed phase players are 'woken' individually to use their secret abilities while everyone else's eyes remain shut. This is when information is gathered, protections are placed, sabotage occurs and the monster/ killer/ rebel leader attacks.

The storyteller takes note of all of these interactions and plays out the consequences as they arise.

Town Halls/ Round Tables (Eyes Open)

After each quest/ revel players open their eyes and are called on to discuss what they know, share information, make accusations, and ultimately vote to eliminate suspected enemies. Strategy, persuasion, and careful observation are your tools here.

This phase really puts the social deduction into social deduction games.

As the game progresses, tensions rise, alliances form, and even the closest friends will question each other's loyalty.

An animated accusation, during a town hall

Accusations get pretty animated during a game of folklore, funny voices welcome

4. Your Storyteller Guides the Journey

Our professional storytellers orchestrate the entire experience, maintaining the perfect balance of tension and fun. They:

  • Create the atmosphere with narrative and music

  • Facilitate player interactions and game mechanics

  • Track the complex web of abilities and information

  • Ensure everyone remains engaged, even if their character is eliminated

Storyteller Mike holds a players fate in the balance, with his thumb pointed to the side

The storyteller is your guide, narrator, referee, and sometimes, the holder of your fate

What Makes Our Social Deduction Games Unique?

Our interactive storytelling games stand apart from traditional murder mystery nights in several key ways:

  • Everyone Stays Involved – Even if your character is eliminated, you remain an active participant with voting power

  • Unique Abilities – Each role has special powers that impact the game in different ways

  • No Scripts – The story emerges organically from player decisions and interactions

  • Multiple Rounds – Each event includes two complete games, allowing players to experience different roles

  • Perfect Balance – Our games are complex enough to be engaging yet accessible to first-time players

"Mike's ability to engage a group of people and create a night of high-stress, humour, and all-round fun times is spectacular. Highly recommend! But! Cannot promise you won't want to divorce your wife or break up with your friends because you cannot trust them anymore. The lies. The LIES!"

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need prior experience with murder mystery games?

No prior experience is necessary! Our games are designed to be accessible to first-time players while still engaging for experienced players. Your storyteller will guide you through everything you need to know.

What if I'm shy or not good at acting?

You don't need to be a performer to enjoy our games. Many of our quietest players end up being the most strategic! The structure of the game naturally encourages everyone to participate at their comfort level.

What should I wear?

Regular casual clothing is perfectly fine. Some groups choose to dress according to the theme (medieval/ gothic cottage-core or 1920s Hollywood) to enhance the experience, but this is entirely optional.

What happens if my character is "killed" during the game?

Unlike traditional murder mysteries, elimination doesn't end your involvement! You'll still participate in discussions and voting, just without your special ability. No one sits out in our games. We also won't reveal your role or alignment until the end of the game.

Can I host a Folklore event at my home or office?

Absolutely! Our games can be set up in any space where players can sit comfortably in a circle. We bring everything needed for the game, including atmospheric music.

How far in advance should I book?

We recommend booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance for standard events, and 4-6 weeks for holiday periods or large corporate events.

Is food and drink included?

Food and drinks are not included in our standard packages, but we can help you coordinate with our venue partners if you'd like a combined experience.
